Set up on the recommendation of NAAC Provide psycho-education and psychotherapy

HYDERABAD: To provide counselling services and training on issues related to positive mental and health wellbeing, the Department of Psychology, Osmania University has started a counselling centre “Sahayam”. OU Vice-Chancellor T. Tirupati Rao inaugurated the centre.

He reminded that this is an initiative put forth by the Vice-Chancellor after recommendations were made by NAAC to set up psychological counselling services for the campus. He said Sahayam would serve the university community and would provide psychological counselling services, trainings and awareness programmes.

Senior professor C. Beena will co-ordinate the activities of Sahayam, while Diana Monteiro will be the counselling psychologist in-charge of delivering the services to the university community.

Some of the services include providing counselling, psycho-education and psychotherapy as needed, providing outreach services and educating the university community about management of psychological issues as needed. An additional focus will include training of psychology personnel on counselling and psychology-related topics.
