G Narayanamma Institute of Technology & Science (GNITS)

G Narayanamma Institute of Technology & Science (GNITS) for Women was established in 1997 under the auspices of G Pulla Reddy Charities Trust and named after Smt G Narayanamma, the life partner of G Pulla Reddy.

The vital role played by the women in the society and the increased awareness and empowerment of women has motivated the Charities Trust to start an engineering college exclusively for women, on 15th December 1997.

The campus is located 5 km away from Mehdipatnam adjoining the National Highway. The 12.5 acre campus, located between National Highway and Jubilee Hills with all greenery and beautiful landscape is indeed a spectacular sight.

This is the first engineering college for women in Andhra Pradesh to obtain accreditation by NBA of AICTE and first college to obtain ISO 9001-2000 certification. The college has got ‘Best Engineering College Award’ for the year 2007 by ISTE.

GNITS has currently been offering 4-year full time B Tech programme in computer science, electronics and communication, information technology, electrical and electronics, electronics and telematics and instrumentation and control engineering and 2-year full time MTech programme in power electronics and electric drives, computer science and digital electronics and communication systems.

The college has well qualified and highly experienced 135 strong faculty members and more than 86 technical support staff to provide practical perspective over the industry dynamics and keep the students informed over the latest trends in the industry.

The well-stacked library consists of about 6,426 titles in all branches and the total number of books comes to about 25,000. The college subscribes to 84 foreign and Indian journals and 30 general journals and magazines. The library has been fully automated and equipped with 20 systems and an online 5kv server and internet. GNITS library is a member of INDEST-AICTE Consortium for accessing IEEE journals online.

PLACEMENTS

Eighteen companies had conducted on and off campus drives for the students passing out in the year 2009. These companies have selected 247 students from all the branches. The companies, which visited the College are Accenture, ADP, Brigh Tex Bio Phonetics, Capgemini, CMC, Dupont, HP, Infosys, MAQ Software, Redpine Signals, TCS and Virtusa. In addition to it, Areva T&D, Apps Associates, Convergys, HSBC and Sonata conducted off campus recruitments.

 CHAIRMAN’S VIEW

GNITS Chairman P Subba Reddy said that the college is established with the sole objective of imparting quality education to women and to empower them to be self-reliant and to make them stand on par with men in nation building exercise.

He said since its inception, the college has made rapid strides towards progress and development not only in terms of increase in strength of staff and students but more significantly in updating the facilities in the campus catering to the needs of the students, like communication skills and campus selections.

GNITS has a vision set to ignite the scientific temper in young budding women engineering graduates. Every student of GNITS can be assured right type of inputs to mould them into young engineers with high technical competence, he added.

PRINCIPAL’S VIEW

Principal Dr D Raghuramireddy said that GNITS has state-of-the-art-laboratories, experienced and competent faculty members and efficient administrative network.

To ignite scientific temper and inculcate human values, GNITS has been taking a number of innovative steps in the process of infusing quality and higher education to produce a new generation of engineers, he added.

Besides academic excellence, he said focus would be laid on overall development of individuals to face challenges in their careers. The institute also facilitates faculty and support staff to work as a team and update their knowledge and skills to match the industrial and technological development.

The institute is making best efforts to provide its students with placement opportunities and the required training.  The Training and Placement Cell headed by Roopesh Sengupta, HR Manager, not only arranges for professional skills training programme for the students but also takes care to provide opportunities to them in the form of campus interviews, the Principal said.

Before the Campus Recruitment begins, the Placement Cell hones the skills of final year students by organizing various programmes, he added.

 STUDENTS’SPEAK

Sudharani, a BTech (ECE) third year student from the college says that students should spend their four years in the college, drawing the maximum benefit from the teachers, infrastructure and other facilities.

Given the current economic situation, when companies are focusing sharply on cutting flab and ensuring quality, lack of adequate skills exacerbates the situation further for students, she said adding that Students need to up-skill, upgrade and retrain themselves, rather than get disappointed.
